Deleting a Bookmark

This tip applies to Word 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, and 2021

After working with a document for a time, you may discover bookmarks that you no longer need. As you delete text that contains a bookmark, the bookmark is automatically deleted. However, if you want to explicitly delete a bookmark, you can follow these steps:

Display the Insert tab of the ribbon.
Click the Bookmark tool in the Links group. Word displays the Bookmark dialog box. (See Figure 1.)

Select the name of the bookmark you want to delete.
Click on Delete. (The Cancel button changes to Close.)
Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each bookmark you want to delete.
Click on Close.
