Removing All Comments

This tip applies to Word 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, and 2021

Word allows you to easily add comments to your documents. There may come a time when you want to get rid of all of them. In order to do so, you can follow these steps:

  1. Display the Review tab of the Ribbon.
  2. Click the down-arrow on the Delete tool in the Comments group. (See Figure 1.)

  4. In the resulting drop-down list, choose Delete All Comments in Document.

Note that if you don't see the Delete tool in Step 2, click on either the Previous tool or Next tool and Word will display the Delete tool. Follow with Step 3 to remove all comments in your document.

If you would like to add an image to your comment (not an avatar, but an image to help in making the point of your comment), include the characters [{fig}] (all 7 characters, in the sequence shown) in your comment text. You’ll be prompted to upload your image when you submit the comment. Maximum image size is 6Mpixels. Images larger than 600px wide or 1000px tall will be reduced. Up to three images may be included in a comment. All images are subject to review. Commenting privileges may be curtailed if inappropriate images are posted.

If the reason for removing all comments is to prepare the document for sharing or publication, the user may want to cover multiple bases by going to File > Info and then clicking on Check for Issues.
