Inserting the Template Name in Your Document

Every Word document has a template attached to it. This template defines things such as available macros and styles, among other things. If you do not explicitly attach a template, then Word uses the Normal template. The name of the template file attached to your document can be inserted into your document and updated automatically. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Position the insertion point where you want the template file name to appear.
  2. Click the Insert tab of the ribbon.
  3. Click the Quick Parts tool (in the Text group) and then click Fields. Word displays the Field dialog box.
  4. In the Categories list, choose Document Information. (See Figure 1.)
  5. Figure 1. The Field dialog box.

  6. In the Field Names list choose Template.
  7. Click on OK to close the dialog box and insert your field.

Remember that these steps only insert the template name, they don't actually change the template associated with the document.
